Dawn House – Mim Design

Heritage meets Modern - Mim Design and Neil Architecture

The Dawn House is a project that delivered results that make you stand back and take a breath.

What’s not to love about our job when we get trusted to create premium window furnishing solutions for homes like this one on the beautiful Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula. Traditional blinds and curtains would have graced the windows of the Dawn House when it was first built in the 1860’s. Today we still use blinds and curtains to provide light control and privacy in our homes with a touch of modern technology to make life a little easier than it was back then.

Using Motorised and automated window furnishings for luxury homes like the Dawn House makes controlling the comfort of such a large home so much easier.  Wiring and automation is seamlessly integrated with motorised blinds concealed in recessed pelmets allowing the owners to manage the control of their privacy and protect their furniture and floors from the heat from wherever they are, at home, the beach or back in Melbourne.

Uniting this beautiful heritage landmark home overlooking Melbourne’s Port Phillip Bay with an incredible but discreet modern addition truly provides this family the very best of old and new.  The teams at MIM Design and Neil Architecture have created a legacy that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

IMPROVING PRIVACY & LIGHT CONTROL

Window treatments at Dawn House have been carefully designed to suit the spaces they are made for, taking into consideration the function of the space and the needs of the users in those spaces to make sure window treatments aren’t chosen in isolation but are a considered part of the overall design of the interiors.

Having window furnishings custom made isn’t just about made to measure. Custom window furnishings are designed and specified to provide the ideal combination of function and aesthetics. Our Designers will carefully consider and recommend the type and style of window treatment, the fabric, colour and installation options to ensure window furnishings don’t just look good but that they will offer the practical benefits they are intended for.

TRADITIONAL AND CONTEMPORARY design

The beauty of the Dawn House is enhanced by the way Neil Architecture and MIM Design have melded the two different eras to create spaces that are able to work so effortlessly together.  Using scale, materials and colours they have beautifully united two very different styles.

Allowing different design specialties to work together creates the opportunity for outstanding design outcomes. We love getting involved in projects that embrace collaborative input. Planning is what allows results like this to come alive.

MARKILUX MOTORISED SKYLIGHT BLINDS

Markilux skylight blinds were installed above the 4.3 mt kitchen skylight to provide the owners the ability to filter light that floods the kitchen when needed.  While large skylights allow huge amounts of  natural light into spaces, there are times of the day and year when it’s necessary to filter this light. Motorised skylight blinds make doing this simple; they are easy to operate and invisible from below.
